FAQ – frequently asked questions about abshockey

Frequently asked questions about abshockey (FAQ)

FAQ overview

1. How does the personalisation of hockey sticks work?

The personalisation of hockey sticks allows players to customise their sticks individually. They are also called custom sticks. Here are some personalisation options:

  • Prints: Players can have their team name, nickname or slogans printed on the hockey stick. This gives the stick a personal touch.
  • Professional customisation: We offer special prints that adapt optimally to the material of the stick. They are durable and don't affect the grip or the weight.

What can I choose on the SOYUZ Custom stick?

First you choose a model – it determines the weight and kick point. Then you customise the stick further:

  1. Model (determines weight & kick point; SR weights for reference):
    • STD PRO – Low-Kick, 400g
    • AURORA – Low-Kick, 365g
    • ARCANE – Ultra-Low-Kick, 365g
    • RAPID – Ultra-Low-Kick, 365g
    • HIT GRIT – Hybrid-Kick, 375g
    • MASTER FRST – Mid-Kick, 375g
    • CLASSIC SPR – High-Kick, 375g
  2. Size (SR, INT, JR, YHT),
  3. Flex (20, 30, 40, 47, 50, 55, 60, 67, 70, 77, 87, 95, 102, 105),
  4. Curve / blade: The most popular are P92, P29 and P28, plus the trending P86 (a P92 blade with a P28 toe hook). As a pro custom provider we offer over 80 blades in total – see the visual comparison in the curve guide.
  5. Hand (RH/LH),
  6. Grip: On most models a 3D grip is included as standard; on the STD PRO you can choose the grip yourself. In addition, the grip level can be selected.
  7. Color/design: On every model you choose between the Original design and the Blackout version (all black). On the STD PRO you additionally choose the color, on the ARCANE the design color.

2. Which materials are used for the sticks?

Our hockey sticks are made of high-quality carbon and with modern manufacturing technology. The carbon content is very high on all our models – this ensures a low weight and top performance on the ice. The SOYUZ top models use T1100 carbon and aviation-grade fiber.

3. How long does delivery of personalised sticks take?

The delivery time for our personalised hockey sticks / custom sticks is currently 4–6 weeks. Each stick is produced individually according to the player's wishes.

4. Can I change my order?

Production of the personalised hockey sticks / custom sticks starts within 2-4 working days. Until then, you can let us know of any changes via the contact form.

5. Which payment methods are accepted?

All payment methods are shown at the bottom of the page. These include all common credit cards such as Mastercard, Visa and American Express. We also offer PayPal, TWINT and Klarna. New: you can now also pay by invoice.

6. Can I return or exchange my order?

It depends on whether you ordered a stock product or a custom stick.

Stock products: 30-day right of return. For items we keep in stock – off-the-shelf sticks, gloves, bags, tape and other accessories – you have 30 days from receipt of the goods to send them back. The condition is that the goods come back in unopened original packaging and unused: complete, undamaged, with all labels and in intact original packaging. A stick that has been used on the ice, cut down, taped or stickered counts as used and cannot be taken back. You bear the cost of the return shipment yourself.

Custom sticks are excluded from returns. This makes sense, as the stick is tailored precisely to you and cannot be resold to someone else. Our warranty against material and manufacturing defects of course still applies to custom sticks.

You will find all the details in our return policy and in our terms and conditions. If you're not satisfied or something went wrong with the order, get in contact with us and we'll surely find a solution together.

7. Do you offer international shipping?

Yes. We ship to Switzerland and to 25 further European countries – including Germany, Austria, France, Italy, the Benelux countries, Scandinavia and many EU countries in Eastern and Southern Europe. Which countries are currently available is shown directly in the checkout, in the country selector.

8. How do I contact you?

Via the contact form, live chat or via social media (Instagram, TikTok).

E-mail: info@abshockey.ch

Tel: +41415050375

9. Are there special discounts for customers or bulk orders?

Yes. From 2 sticks you get 5% off – so it's worth adding a backup stick to your order. For teams and clubs there is a separate tier from 10 sticks (10–19: 12%, 20–39: 15%, 40+: 20%) – you will find all the details on our team orders page. Current promotions are shown in the banner on the homepage. For larger or special requests, simply get in touch with us.

10. How do I care for my hockey stick to extend its lifespan?

Extending the lifespan of a hockey stick is difficult and unreliable. However, you can do a few things to protect the material. To extend the lifespan of your hockey stick, you can clean it after each use and store it in a dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

11. What happens if my hockey stick is damaged during transport?

If your stick arrives damaged during transport, please contact us immediately. We will assess the damage and send you a new stick.

12. Can I test my custom stick before buying it?

Since each hockey stick is made individually to your specifications, we don't offer a test option for personalised sticks. However, we're happy to help you choose the best options. Soon we'll also offer small events where we rent ice and you can come by to test different models.

If your whole team is interested in our sticks, contact us. Then we might be able to arrange a visit to a training session.

13. Is there a warranty on the custom sticks?

Yes, our hockey sticks come with a 30-day warranty from receipt. Should a manufacturing defect occur during this period, we will replace the stick free of charge.

14. What are the advantages of a custom stick?

A personalised hockey stick offers you the advantage of being perfectly tailored to your needs. You can adjust the weight, size, flex, curve and other settings. This can, under certain circumstances, lead to better performance on the ice.

15. How do I choose the right size and flex for my custom stick?

We provide size and flex tables on our website. They can help you make the right choice based on your height and weight. We have also written several blogs on this topic. You can also contact us at any time if you need further advice.

16. Can I print my team logo on my personalised hockey stick?

Yes, we offer the option to print team logos or other special designs on the custom sticks. As it involves a lot of effort and cost, this is only possible from an order quantity of 20 or more sticks.

17. What are the differences between the various curve / blade options?

Each curve or blade option has special properties that affect your shooting technique, puck control and passing accuracy. You'll find the direct visual comparison of all blades in our curve guide, and more detailed information in our blog articles.

18. What is the difference between the various flex options?

A stick's flex determines how much it bends. A higher flex means more stiffness, which is suitable for heavier, stronger players, while a lower flex offers more bending, ideal for players who are a bit lighter or want a particularly quick release. We measure flex at standard stick length; if you cut the stick down, it effectively becomes stiffer – on low and ultra-low kick models this effect is less noticeable. On our product pages and on the blog you'll find a flex table that helps you choose.

19. Can I send back my custom stick if it doesn't perform as expected?

Since our hockey sticks are made individually to your specifications, a return due to dissatisfaction is not possible. We recommend that you contact us before ordering. We'll then be happy to advise you so you choose the right stick for your needs.

For stock products it is different: there you have a 30-day right of return from receipt of the goods, as long as the item comes back in unopened original packaging and unused – see question 6.

20. Are there special offers for youth or teams?

Yes, we offer tiered team discounts: from 10 sticks 12%, from 20 sticks 15% and from 40 sticks 20% – see team orders. If you coach a team or are involved in a youth programme, contact us to learn more about our offers.

21. What should I do if I forgot the password for my customer account at abshockey.ch?

If you forgot your password, you can click on “Forgot password?” on the login page. You'll then receive an e-mail with instructions on how to reset your password.

22. What are the advantages of a One-Piece hockey stick over a Two-Piece stick?

One-Piece hockey sticks are lighter and offer better energy transfer on shots, as there is no joint between the shaft and the blade. This leads to better control and feel for the puck. Two-Piece sticks are generally cheaper and you can replace parts when the blade or the stick breaks or wears out.

23. How do I know my hockey stick is the right length?

The right length of your stick depends on your height and your position on the ice. As a rule of thumb: a stick should, standing without skates, reach up to the tip of your nose and, standing with skates, up to your chin. You can also adjust the hockey stick differently if you have other needs. One example is Martin St. Louis (NHL legend with the Tampa Bay Lightning). He played with a much longer stick than usual for his height. At the other end of the scale is Sidney Crosby, who at a height of 180cm uses a stick with a shaft length of only 142cm.

Conclusion: At an advanced level, no general rule can be applied anymore. It then comes down more to the player's preference and feel as to which stick length to use. For young or inexperienced players, however, the rule of thumb works most of the time.

24. How fast are in-stock sticks delivered?

In-stock sticks are ready to ship immediately and usually reach you within 1–3 working days. The in-stock range focuses on the SOYUZ models (ARCANE, RAPID, AURORA, HIT GRIT, STD PRO – partly in SR, INT and JR) and is restocked regularly. So if your model was sold out once, it's worth taking a second look.

25. Which kick point suits me if I've played Bauer or CCM so far?

As a guide: if you've played a Bauer Vapor or CCM RibCor (low kick), the AURORA or STD PRO suits you – or the ARCANE/RAPID for an even faster release. CCM Jetspeed or Bauer Pulse players (hybrid) fit the HIT GRIT, CCM Tacks players (mid kick) the MASTER FRST and Bauer Nexus or Supreme players (high kick) the CLASSIC SPR.

26. What is the difference between the SOYUZ ARCANE and the SOYUZ RAPID?

Both are ultra-low kick sticks at 365 g (SR) with the AEROX taper – the difference is in the upper shaft. The ARCANE has a conventional, rather thin shaft. The RAPID uses a special D-shaped shaft: rounded on the palm side, with a recess for the fingers on the other side. It takes a bit of getting used to, but performs very strongly in testing.

27. What is SOYUZ and why do we rely on it?

SOYUZ is the pro stick brand behind our current stick line. What convinced us are the KHL-level quality and workmanship as well as materials like T1100 carbon and aviation-grade fiber. SOYUZ sticks are available from us as fully configurable custom sticks or from stock with delivery in 1–3 working days.

28. Do you also offer goalie sticks?

Yes. The SOYUZ LORD is our custom goalie stick, and we also carry an in-stock goalie stick in 18K carbon with 26" and 27" paddles (580–720 g depending on the version). All goalie sticks come with the P31/A31 curve and are available for regular and full-right.
