Hockey Road Trip Packing List

Packing List: Hockey Road Trip

Ever hit the road for a game and realized—too late—you forgot something crucial? Maybe just an extra roll of tape… or, you know, your actual skates. Brutal. And the worst part? Once you're gone, you're gone. No turning back, no second chances—what's in your bag is all you've got.

Let’s make sure that never happens again.

We asked seasoned players to help us put together the ultimate hockey trip checklist. The goal? To keep you from that sinking “I forgot something” feeling and make sure you roll up ready to dominate—not borrowing gear like a rookie.

Essential List for a Hockey Trip

Disclaimer: This list is designed for a non-professional player going on a league trip without an overnight stay. Therefore, we exclude overnight products and first aid kits, which are usually provided by the team.

Gear Up Like a Pro—No Excuses

Clothing & Base Layers

  • Skating socks – Don’t let blisters ruin your game.
  • Spare underwear – Because one game shouldn’t mean smelling like a locker room for days.
  • Towel – Essential. Don’t be that guy asking to borrow one.
  • Small towel for drying skate blades – Rust is the enemy.
  • Shirt, shorts, shoes, sweatshirt for pre-game warm-up – Stay loose, stay ready. (Hat and gloves, maybe?)
  • Socks and game jersey – Plus a warm-up jersey if your team uses one.

Shower & Personal Hygiene

  • Shower sandals – No one likes mystery fungi.
  • Shampoo & shower gel – Get that post-game stink off.
  • Deodorant – For yourself and your teammates’ sanity.
  • Comb & hair gel – Look good, play good.
  • Toothbrush & toothpaste – Optional, but if you’re talking close to people, maybe not.
  • Hand/face cream or talcum powder – Keep your skin from feeling like sandpaper.

Game Equipment

  • Jockstrap & garter belt – Protect the important stuff.
  • Skates & blade guards – Because playing barefoot isn’t an option.
  • Shin guards, hockey pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads – Unless you like bruises.
  • Helmet & gloves – Safety first, style second.
  • Neck guard – If required, bring it. If not, still consider it.
  • Sticks – At least one backup. Always.

Essential Accessories

  • Stick tape, shin guard tape, grip tape – Tape = life.
  • Water bottle & electrolyte drinks – Hydrate or die-drate.
  • Scissors – You’ll need them more than you think.
  • Spare skate laces – A snapped lace mid-game is a nightmare.
  • Extra screws & laces for the helmet – Helmets falling apart mid-shift = bad look.
  • Screwdriver – Because duct tape can’t fix everything.
  • Heating cream or muscle oil – Warm up those legs.
  • V-Shape stone – Quick blade sharpening on the go.
  • Personal mat for the locker room – Keeps your feet dry and your socks clean.
  • Tissues – For the sniffles or an unexpected nosebleed.

Travel Backpack

  • Drinks & snacks – Fuel up.
  • Pillow – Bus rides can be brutal.
  • Power bank – Dead phone? No thanks.
  • Headphones – For music, game film, or drowning out bad locker room banter.

Are You Sure You’ve Got Everything?

We polled some players, and here are a few “extras” they swear by:

  • "CARMOL, the large bottle!" – If you know, you know.
  • "Poker chips or playing cards" – Gotta kill time somehow.
  • "Beers for the return trip, left on the rink to keep them cool." – Veteran move.
  • "The young player who brings the soccer ball for warm-ups." – It’s a rite of passage.
  • "Self-inflating mattress for sleeping in the bus aisle." – Smart.
  • "A hat if it rains!" – Always be prepared.
  • "Bluetooth speakers for music." – Dressing room DJ duties.
  • "Bacon-flavored chips." – Because why not?

Now you’re officially ready to roll. No stress, no missing gear—just focus on the game.

Good luck out there!
