What are the advantages of a higher blade in ice hockey?

Max Blades in Ice Hockey: P92 Max, PP92M & Explained Differences

Max blades in ice hockey are becoming increasingly popular – especially among technically skilled players and professionals. But what really sets a P92 Max blade apart from a standard P92? And who actually benefits from switching to a max blade?

Which players use max blades?

Among professional players, higher blades are becoming more and more common. They are currently the No. 1 trend in professional leagues worldwide. So what’s behind blade variants like P92 Max, PP92M, M03 and A92M?

What is the difference between P92 and P92 Max?

With a P92 Max blade, the blade is higher – especially in the middle section. This creates a larger contact surface, but also slightly changes the overall feel compared to a classic P92 blade.

What are the advantages of a higher blade in ice hockey?

The advantages of the blades P92 Max, PP92M, M03 and A92M are:

  • More control on faceoffs thanks to the larger contact area
  • Better chances in board battles and tight game situations
  • Easier to deflect or pick pucks out of the air

The disadvantages of the blades P92 Max, PP92M, M03 and A92M are:

  • Weight: Since more material is used, the stick is slightly heavier. With our sticks, this means an additional 15–25 grams.
  • Balance: The extra weight in the blade slightly shifts the balance point. This can take some getting used to at first.
  • Look and feel: At first, the blade may look unusual if you’re used to a standard curve. However, most players adapt very quickly.

Which players benefit from max blades?

Max blades are especially suitable for centers on faceoffs and players who often operate in tight situations or around the net.
For classic goal scorers or very weight-sensitive players, the adjustment period may take a bit longer.

So far, the feedback has been very positive, and the number of players using these blade variants continues to grow. This clearly shows that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

The same applies to the variants P29 + 1/4, P28 Max, W28MAX and A28M.
