Curve: A Classic for Passing, Shooting, and Handling

The Lidström curve, known as A02 at our store, is a true classic in hockey. Internationally, it appears under various names: Bauer P02, Warrior W02, Hockeystickman P5, or formerly Easton P5. Some also know it as the Kronwall curve. Despite its age, it has proven to be a versatile pattern – suitable for both professional and recreational leagues.

Saucer Passes Made Easy

The combination of length, aggressive loft, and heel curve makes saucer passes effortless. Even with minimal wrist movement, passes can be delivered accurately to a streaking teammate. The puck rolls smoothly from heel to toe and lifts quickly, making perfect technique less critical. It’s no surprise that this curve is popular in recreational and minor leagues. NHL players like Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Jacob Trouba have also used it.

Hard Shots from Distance

The same features that make saucer passes easy also make the Lidström curve ideal for hard slapshots and snapshots. With the large mid-heel sweet spot and aggressive loft, one-timers from distance can be executed with power and elevation. Players looking to keep the puck low should ensure a full wrist roll.

Advantages

  • Effortless saucer passing thanks to heel curve, length, and loft
  • Large mid-heel sweet spot for hard slapshots and snapshots
  • Forgiving for stickhandling and pass reception
  • Square toe helps dig pucks out along the boards

Disadvantages

  • Aggressive loft makes low shots harder to control
  • Length can make tight board work challenging
  • Deep curve complicates backhand passing and shooting
  • No toe hook → toe shots and toe drags are more difficult

Conclusion

The Lidström/Kronwall curve is a versatile pattern for players of all levels, especially those who rely on precise passing and powerful long-range shots. If you want to try the A02 curve yourself, it’s available in Senior and Intermediate versions, suitable for various sticks.
