The Crazy Ovi Curve: Ovechkin's Original Blade That No Longer Exists
If you played hockey around 2012, you might still remember it: the Crazy Ovi. A retail curve named after Alexander Ovechkin, and one of the most aggressive blades you could buy off the shelf back then. It no longer exists in that form. We have an original in our collection – and look at what became of it.
At a glance
- Stick: CCM U+ 10 with “CRAZYOVI” print
- Curve: original Crazy Ovi – strong toe hook, very open
- Later in shops: the P08, a toned-down version
- Closest at SOYUZ today: P71 (like the Crazy Ovi), P108 or P122 (like the P08)

What made the Crazy Ovi so special
The blade bends early and has a pronounced hook at the toe. The result: the puck lifts extremely quickly, finishes from sharp angles and shots on the move come easily – exactly the game Ovechkin is famous for. The downside was just as clear: backhand, flat passes and receiving hard feeds took a lot of getting used to. For many, it was a love-it-or-hate-it blade.

From the Crazy Ovi to the P08
Later, the P08 arrived in shops. It is based on the same idea but is a toned-down version: less hook at the toe, a bit tamer in everyday play. Anyone looking for an “Ovechkin curve” in a shop today usually ends up with this milder shape – the original Crazy Ovi is no longer available in that form.

Which blade comes closest today?
SOYUZ has no blade called “Crazy Ovi” – but there are Pro Custom blades that come very close:
- Like the original Crazy Ovi: SOYUZ P71 – for left and right shots
- Like the P08 from the shops: SOYUZ P108 or SOYUZ P122
All three are Pro Custom blades and can be ordered from 3 sticks. In the 3D Curve Lab you can rotate them and compare them side by side before you decide.

Who is a blade like this for?
For players who shoot a lot on the move and off the wrist, like toe drags and are willing to put some work into their backhand. If you are coming from a neutral curve for the first time, start with the milder version (P108 or P122) or with a P28.
The namesake
Alexander Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky's goal record on 6 April 2025 and has been the top goal scorer in NHL history ever since. How it happened is covered in our article Gretzky vs Ovechkin.
