JJ Moser's Stick: CCM Super Tacks AS2 with “MC Moses” on the Shaft

Most pro stock sticks carry the player's last name on the shaft. JJ Moser's carries more: “JJ MC MOSES 90”. A nickname plus his jersey number – he still wears 90 with the Tampa Bay Lightning today. We had the stick in our hands. Time for a spec check.

“MC Moses” – the nickname on the shaft

CCM prints pro stock sticks to the player's wishes. Usually that is the last name, sometimes with a number. Moser went for the personal version: his nickname “MC Moses” and the 90. For us, that is exactly what makes pro stock sticks fascinating – they tell you something about the person who plays them.

By the way: you can have a name on your shaft too. On a SOYUZ custom stick the factory prints your name (or your nickname) straight onto the shaft.

Flex 80 as a defenceman

Moser is a defenceman, and still no extreme value on the flex: 80. That puts him exactly where most pros in our series now sit – Nico Hischier also plays 80, and so does Nikolaj Ehlers. A moderate flex loads faster and helps on the short breakout pass just as much as on a point shot that can't be wound up forever.

Which flex suits you is shown in our flex chart. Rule of thumb: flex roughly equal to your body weight in kilos, and if in doubt go slightly lower.

The blade: no code, no statement

There is no curve code on the blade, and the letters on the shaft (M, F) are internal CCM codes that are not publicly documented. We could write down a curve that sounds plausible. We won't: we say nothing about the curve here, because we can't determine it reliably.

The player

Janis Jérôme “JJ” Moser, born on 6 June 2000 in Biel, came through EHC Biel and was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round (60th overall) in 2021. After the franchise moved to Utah, he was traded to Tampa Bay in June 2024. With Switzerland he won World Championship silver in 2025 and was named to the 2026 Olympic roster.

Which SOYUZ matches?

CCM's Tacks line is a mid-kick shaft. Our direct counterpart is the SOYUZ MASTER FRST – mid kick, 380 g, built for players used to a CCM Tacks. If you want a quicker release, take a look at the SOYUZ HIT GRIT (hybrid kick). Which kick point suits you is explained in the kick point guide.

Not sure which curve suits your game? Take our 2-minute stick finder and find your model.

More spec checks

More Swiss players in the series: Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Andres Ambühl. What the codes on pro sticks mean is covered in Understanding dressed sticks & pro stock specs.
