Kevin Fiala's Stick: P28, 82 Flex, Bauer Pro Stock – and Which SOYUZ Matches
Last updated: 30.10.2026 · by Andri Farrer
Kevin Fiala was the 2024 World Championship MVP, has had 85-point and 35-goal NHL seasons – and is working his way back to the LA Kings after breaking his leg at the 2026 Olympics. His stick is surprisingly unspectacular: P28, 82 flex, left-handed. That's exactly what makes it the perfect template – because you don't need a custom order for this blade, you can get it from stock. Here are his specs, and which SOYUZ gets you closest.
The short answer
Curve: P28 – listed as a custom P28 on his pro stocks. An open toe curve for quick, high wrist shots.
Flex: 82. Hand: left. Stick: Bauer pro stock (dressed as Proto-R or Nexus Sync).
The SOYUZ alternative: P28 – left-handed, 85 flex, in stock in six of seven SOYUZ models. As a custom stick from one piece, in the flex you want.
Kevin Fiala's stick specs
- Curve: P28 (custom P28)
- Flex: 82 (an older pro stock listing also shows 77)
- Hand: left (LH)
- Stick: Bauer pro stock, "G3 build", dressed as Proto-R or Nexus Sync; earlier listings also as Bauer Ultrasonic
- Size: 183 cm / 93 kg (6'0" / 205 lb)
- Team: Los Angeles Kings (since 2022), before that Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators
The data is consistent across several sources: the LA Kings' official game-used shop sells Fiala's sticks as left-handed, 82 flex, "Custom P28", G3 build with Nexus Sync graphics. A pro stock listing on SidelineSwap reads "Ultrasonic LH P28 82 Flex G3 Build", and our own pro stick specs list has him at L / 82 / P28. Only one older listing (Pro Reserve VS63) shows 77 flex and a "toe" curve similar to the P28.
Worth knowing: "Custom P28" on a pro stock usually means the base shape is a P28 and the details – a little more or less openness, a different lie – were tweaked for the player. What exactly is different on Fiala's blade isn't public. The base shape is clear: P28.
The curve: P28 – the sniper blade
The P28 is one of the most popular toe curves in pro hockey, and the number two in our order mix after the P29. The curve sits far towards the toe, and the toe is clearly open. On a wrist shot the puck rolls to the toe and comes off the blade quickly and high. That suits Fiala's game: he attacks the slot with speed and shoots in stride – often without a big wind-up.
The trade-off: backhands and flat passes take a bit more feel with a P28 than with a mid curve like the P29/P92. If you mostly pass and play the blue line, a mid curve often serves you better. If you want to score, sooner or later you end up with a P28.

The numbers: P28 compared
The SOYUZ P28 matches the Bauer P28, the CCM P28 and the Warrior W28. Here's how it compares with the P29 (mid curve) and the taller P28M – values from our Curve Lab:
| Curve (CAD) | Length mm | Height mm | Curve depth mm | Openness mid | Openness toe |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOYUZ P28 | 273.1 | 74.1 | 11.2 | 5.6° | 11.6° |
| SOYUZ P29 (≈ Bauer P92) | 285.3 | 74.2 | 12.1 | 6.4° | 11.2° |
| SOYUZ P28M (Max) | 277.4 | 78.2 | 14.6 | 5.7° | 12.1° |
What the numbers show: at 273 mm the P28 is the shortest of the three blades – more than 12 mm shorter than the P29. The short blade with its open toe makes it nimble for puck handling in tight spaces and quick on the release. Lie values are deliberately left out of the table: our standard blades have the same lie as Bauer and CCM – more in our lie guide.

The stick: Bauer pro stock with a G3 build
Fiala plays Bauer – just not what the graphics say. His sticks wear Proto-R or Nexus Sync graphics; according to the Kings' shop, underneath is a "G3 build" with its own flex profile. Dressed sticks like this are normal in the NHL: the player keeps the shaft he loves and gets the current model's look on top. What's behind it is explained in Dressed sticks & pro stock specs explained.
Which kick point is in Fiala's build isn't public – which is exactly why you shouldn't copy his shaft, but pick the one that suits your shot. More in our kick point guide.
82 flex at 93 kg – the real lesson
Fiala weighs 93 kg and uses an 82 flex. That's softer than his body weight – and it's no accident. A softer stick loads faster, so the wrist shot gets off earlier. For a sniper who shoots in stride, that matters more than maximum stiffness on the slap shot.
Our rule of thumb: flex ≈ body weight in kg, and when in doubt, go lower. Fiala shows why: even a 93 kg pro goes below his weight. If you weigh 75 kg and use an 85 flex because "that's what the pros do", you're making life hard for yourself. Also remember: every centimetre you cut off makes the stick stiffer (cutting or extending your stick). The full chart is in our flex guide.
The player
Born on 22 July 1996 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, he moved to Sweden at 16 to play for Malmö and HV71 and was drafted 11th overall by Nashville in 2014. In 2019 he was traded to Minnesota, where he broke out as a top scorer in 2021–22 with 33 goals and 85 points in 82 games. In summer 2022 the Wild traded him to Los Angeles, where he immediately signed a seven-year contract. In 2024–25 he scored 35 goals.
With Switzerland he won World Championship silver in 2018 and 2024 – in 2024 he was named MVP, best forward and to the all-star team. At the 2026 Olympics he broke his left lower leg in the group game against Canada after a hit by Tom Wilson. That ended his season, and another procedure followed in September. On 29 October 2026 Fiala was back on the ice at the Kings' morning skate in a non-contact jersey – there's no return date yet. His NHL record so far: 707 games, 229 goals, 528 points.
Which SOYUZ matches your Fiala setup?
The blade is clear: P28. For the shaft, your game decides – not Fiala's graphics:
| Your game | SOYUZ model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sniper, lots of wrist and snap shots | AURORA (low kick) | Loads fast, similar to a Bauer Vapor – closest to Fiala's release game. P28 LH 85 flex in stock |
| All-rounder: release and slap shot | HIT GRIT (hybrid kick) | The kick point moves with your hand position – our best-selling stick. P28 LH 85 flex in stock |
| You're coming from a Bauer Nexus | CLASSIC SPR (high kick) | Our only model built like a Nexus – for players with a big slap shot. P28 LH 85 flex in stock |
In stock: the P28 is available from stock on all seven SOYUZ senior models. Left-handed in 85 flex – the closest to Fiala's 82 – is currently in stock in six of the seven models (AURORA, HIT GRIT, ARCANE, MASTER FRST, STD PRO, CLASSIC SPR), the RAPID in 70 and 75 flex. See what's available right now in the in-stock collection.
Custom: if you want it exact – P28, left-handed, your flex, your length, your name on the shaft – configure a custom stick. The P28 is available on every SOYUZ model from one piece, delivery 4–6 weeks.
My recommendation: for most amateur wingers, the AURORA or HIT GRIT with a P28 in 75 flex is a better starting point than Fiala's 82 – unless, like him, you weigh over 90 kg. If you currently use a P29/P92, overlay the two blades in the Curve Lab first.
